Vasil Levski, age 30, 1867
This Bulgarian solider was at different points in his life, an Orthodox monk, a teacher, and a member of the Bulgarian legion, a revoloutionary group whose goal was to liberate their homeland from the Ottoman empire. Six years after this picture was taken, Levski was captured and executed by Ottoman officials.
His Wiki lists his occupation simply as “Revolutionary.” Damn.
